Why the rating on the label still isn't the rating in your house
SEER2's higher static pressure test is a real improvement, but it's still measured in a lab with a specific, correctly sized, correctly sealed duct system attached — not the actual ductwork behind your walls. A leaky or undersized duct system can erase a meaningful share of even a high-efficiency unit's advantage, which is the real reason correct sizing matters more than chasing the highest SEER2 number available. A 14 SEER2 system installed and sized correctly can out-cool a 17 SEER2 system fighting a duct system it was never matched to.
